This festival, with its origins dating back to time of The Nintoku Emperor, aims to ward off the effects of the hot summer by offering a large icicle to the deity of the shrine. Pilgrims are presented with cut-off (Kachiwari) pieces of this blessed icicle to suck-on to help them survive the heat.
