Namba Shrine

This shrine is said to enshrine EmperorNintoku. Though it prospered under the patronage of Hideyoshi Toyotomi, it declinedwith the fall of the Toyotomi Clan,and its grounds were reduced in sizein the Edo period (1603 to 1867). Theshrine grounds house a Bunraku puppettheater where performances of traditionalJoruri puppet, a form of amusement forthe general public, were held.
