Dotombori is considered the symbol of Minami, one of the most popular people watching areas of Osaka. Visiting Osaka would not be complete without a stop at Dotombori.
とんぼりウォーク Tombori River Walk
There are five bridges over Dotombori River. Ebisubashi is the most popular bridge among the five. Thousands of people cross over the bridge every day. This bridge is a very popular hangout for young people. The promenade starts under this bridge completed in 2004.
アメリカ村 America-Mura(America Village)
America-Mura is a center of youth culture. This area is jammed with shops dealing with imported used clothing, miscellaneous goods, accessories, and more.
ヨーロッパ通り Europe-Dori St.
Street lamps designed like a gas lamp and stately buildings create a chic atmosphere. There are elegant boutiques, galleries, bars, and restaurants in this area.
長堀通 Nagahori-dori
While foreign super luxury brand shops stand side by side above ground, one of the biggest underground malls, Crysta Nagahori, stretches from Yotsubashi-Suji to Sakai-Suji.
南船場 Minami Semba
This area is getting popular as a fashionable place where people, especially adults, can enjoy a relaxing time. Many new restaurants, cafes and other shops have recently opened around the landmark, Organic Build.
心斎橋筋 Shinsaibashi-suji
This street has been a flourishing area crowded with shops and restaurants since the Edo era. It’s a good place to amble around, enjoying window-shopping, architectures, etc.
大丸百貨店・そごう百貨店 Daimaru Dept. Store Shinsaibashi, Sogo Dept. Store Shinsaibashihonten
Daimaru is a long-established department store. It was designed by American architect, William Merrell Vories. Sogo department store standing next to Daimaru is scheduled to open in September, 2005.
