In the Edo period(1603 to 1867), “shingaku” or practical ethics, which was begun in Kyoto by Baigan Ishida, gained popularity. The apprentice of Baigan’s apprentice established the “Shingaku Meiseisha” association in Osaka, and with the support of Osaka’s merchants a new building was built. It is now an incorporated body.
