In 1847, Azumao Sakura lived in the grounds of the Ikasuri Jinja Shrine thanks to the gratitude of the Shinto priest there. As a result of the Sakuradamon Incident in March 1860, he was incarcerated because he protected the ringleader, and died in prison at the age of 50.
