The Site of Private School Shikando

Though from a poor family, Sohkichi Hashimoto was an enthusiastic and talented scholar. He was sponsored by the local townsfolk and went to Edo, or modernday Tokyo, where he studied the Western sciences. On his return to Osaka, he opened a doctor’s practice and the Shikando private school, where he taught these sciences.
