Tomb of Saikaku Ihara

Saikaku Ihara was born in Osaka in 1642. The “Koshoku Ichidai Otoko” (or, The Man Who Spent His Life at Love-Making) that he penned at the age of 40 became a best-seller and established a position for him as a writer. Together with Basho Matsuo and Monzaemon Chikamatsu, Saikaku Ihara was one of the “Three Great Men of Letters of the Genroku era (1688 to 1704).”
