Kamigata Ukiyoe Museum

All of the works in this private museum have been collected by its curator. Kamigata Ukiyoe (color prints of everyday Japanese life) are also known throughout the world as “Osaka Prints.” These are woodblock prints of kabuki actors drawn from the end of the Edo period (1603 to 1867) through to the beginning of the Meiji period (1868 to 1912), and are made by rubbing woodblocks with ink for each color and printing each color by overlaying the same sheet of paper on each woodblock. You can also try your hand at woodblock printing here (reservations required).
