The Site of Osaka Conference

Soon after the Meiji Restoration of 1868, the political situation was one of extreme confusion regarding the course that the new government should follow. From January 1875 through to February, all rival leading figures met at the Kagairo restaurant to seek out a solution. This was the “Osaka Conference,” and this is where they were able to establish the grounds for a constitutional government and national suffrage.
